NSIB to release final Joshua accident report – DG

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is preparing to release its final report on the fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two members of boxer Anthony Joshua's team. The report is expected to be made public within the next 30 to 60 days, according to NSIB Director-General Alex Badeh Jr.

Badeh Jr. stated that the NSIB has concluded its investigation into the December 29, 2025, crash, which occurred in the Makun area of Ogun State along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The findings have been forwarded to relevant stakeholders for their observations, a mandatory step in the accident investigation process before the report can be officially released.

However, the NSIB Director-General expressed that the bureau did not receive the level of cooperation it had hoped for from the Nigeria Police. While acknowledging some assistance, Badeh Jr. indicated that more support from the police and other necessary agencies would have been beneficial. He noted the police's stance that they hold the statutory authority to investigate road traffic accidents, a point that has historically caused friction between the force and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The report on Anthony Joshua’s accident should be out to the public in the next 30 to 60 days. We have sent our findings to the appropriate quarters as required by the law. It’s after this that we can then release it to the public.

The crash resulted in the deaths of Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latif” Ayodele, members of Joshua's team, while Joshua himself sustained minor injuries. Badeh Jr. emphasized that the NSIB's focus is on preventing future accidents through its recommendations, distinguishing its approach from criminal investigations. The bureau is working to improve inter-agency relationships, particularly following the appointment of Nuhu Ribadu as National Security Adviser.

In related news, the NSIB is still awaiting statutory funding from certain transport sector agencies, though the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has met its obligations. Anthony Joshua recently returned to the ring, dedicating his victory to the memory of Ghami and Ayodele.
