NTT Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 75; Hundreds of Schools Damaged

The death toll from the earthquake in Indonesia's Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) province has climbed to 75, as authorities confirmed four more fatalities. The disaster continues to inflict widespread damage and displacement across the region.

As of Thursday afternoon, the number of injured has reached 907, with the number of displaced people surging to over 92,700. This significant increase in displacement is largely attributed to the ongoing aftershocks, which have heightened the sense of insecurity among residents.

Education infrastructure has been severely impacted, with 502 schools reporting heavy damage. This has disrupted the schooling of approximately 177,600 students and affected over 21,000 teachers and staff. In response, authorities are establishing temporary classrooms and implementing remote learning strategies to ensure educational continuity amidst the ongoing crisis.
