Number of small, medium enterprises in Al Buraimi exceed 2,700

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Oman's Al Buraimi Governorate have shown significant growth, with 2,708 registered by the end of 2025. Of these, 2,199 are listed in the SMEs Development Authority (Riyada) database, and 509 have acquired the Riyada card.

Khalfan Abdullah Al Kharousi, Director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Department in Al Buraimi, detailed the distribution of these businesses. Micro-enterprises constitute the largest share at 2,268, followed by 420 small enterprises and 20 medium enterprises. This structure highlights a business environment that encourages startups and relies on micro-activities in initial stages.

The primary sectors attracting these enterprises include wholesale and retail trade, vehicle repair, construction, manufacturing, administrative and support services, transport, and professional activities. The governorate is also seeing a rise in modern and creative service projects like cafes, restaurants, fashion design, beauty centers, tourism, and printing.

Al Kharousi emphasized the vital role these SMEs play in bolstering the local economy, strengthening supply chains, and enhancing competitiveness. Continuous coordination with government bodies aims to provide entrepreneurs with opportunities in public procurement and in-country value applications. Furthermore, these enterprises are crucial for creating direct and indirect employment for Omani youth and promoting self-employment and entrepreneurial skills through specialized training and consultations.
