Nurse murdered in Culiacán days after arrest for alleged drug theft

A nurse in Culiacán, Mexico, was murdered just days after his arrest for allegedly stealing specialized heart medication from the hospital where he worked. Abel Elías “N,” 35, was found shot to death on Río Petatlán street in the Rosales neighborhood, near the IMSS General Hospital No. 1.

According to reports, the nurse, originally from Guasave, was detained by federal agents as he left his shift. He was allegedly found with four boxes of high-specialty medication used for heart treatments. He was reportedly out on bail and still wearing his uniform when he was killed.

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) confirmed the arrest, stating that security protocols at the Culiacán facility led to the detention of a worker. The institute is cooperating with authorities in the investigation and is strengthening its control and surveillance measures.
