Nurse Reported for Photographing Patient Records and Sending Them to an Acquaintance

A nurse at a hospital in Busan has been reported to police after allegedly photographing herself alongside a patient’s medical records and sending the image to an acquaintance.

The Seo District Public Health Center said it recently reported the nurse, identified as A, and the hospital on suspicion of violating the Medical Service Act. The health center began investigating after receiving a complaint.

The nurse reportedly acknowledged during the hospital’s internal inquiry that she had sent the photograph to an outside recipient. South Korea’s Medical Service Act prohibits anyone from accessing, leaking, altering or damaging personal information stored in electronic medical records without a legitimate reason.

The hospital was also reported under the law’s joint-liability provisions. The health center said it would decide whether to impose administrative sanctions after the police investigation.
