Nvidia to Invest Nearly $1 Trillion in US AI Infrastructure This Year, Jensen Huang Tells G20

Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang used a G20 technology summit to urge countries to build artificial intelligence infrastructure quickly, warning that hesitation could leave them behind.

Huang said Nvidia would invest nearly $1 trillion in infrastructure in the United States this year, equivalent to about 31.72 trillion New Taiwan dollars. He compared AI with water and electricity, calling it public infrastructure needed to support each country’s economic development.

The US-hosted summit also gave the Trump administration an opportunity to promote a looser approach to AI governance. US officials have been advocating the “Carolina Principles,” which say countries should not create separate AI regulators. Instead, governments and private companies should work together to test emerging technologies.

In a discussion with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Huang said governments should regulate “actual and concrete harms,” rather than “theoretical and hypothetical harms.” He argued that companies should take responsibility for product safety instead of shifting that responsibility to government officials.

“Technology is still taking shape,” Huang said. He called on companies to accept responsibility for developing technology safely and repeated his warning that countries should not slow down because they fear AI. In his view, the worst outcome would be to fall behind in the AI development race.
