NYCU Miaoli Campus Plan to Integrate Accelerator Research, Radiation Medicine Resources

National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) is moving forward with plans to establish a new campus in Miaoli, Taiwan. The university team met with Miaoli County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin to discuss the future development of the campus, which is slated for the Hongshan High School site in the Miaoli High-Speed Rail Park.

NYCU will hold a university affairs meeting on May 27 to discuss the campus's organizational plan, which will then be submitted to the Ministry of Education in June for review. The Miaoli campus is envisioned as an "Accelerator Industry-Academia Incubation Center," integrating resources for accelerator research and radiation medicine to provide students with a more diverse and professionally competitive learning environment.

Miaoli lacks medical and educational resources the most, and this is an important direction the county government has been continuously working towards. With the gradual improvement of Miaoli's medical construction, and now combined with NYCU and Herong Technology introducing radiation medicine talent cultivation and high-end scientific research energy, it will help improve Miaoli's medical capacity and educational quality simultaneously.

NYCU President Lin Chi-hung highlighted the collaboration with Herong Technology, a company specializing in accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy. Together, they plan to build an "international-class accelerator and radiation medicine strategic talent cultivation center" in Miaoli. This center will serve as a training base for new nuclear medicine professionals and incorporate resources from the semiconductor, smart healthcare, and high-tech industries, offering students hands-on experience from design to maintenance.

Magistrate Chung Tung-chin emphasized Miaoli's need for improved medical and educational resources. He believes the collaboration with NYCU and Herong Technology will significantly enhance the county's medical capacity and educational quality. The county government has pledged full support for the campus's development. Additionally, the county's Department of Education expressed support for NYCU's plan to establish a high school experimental education program, aiming for enrollment in the 2027 academic year, to retain local talent by providing top-tier educational opportunities within Miaoli.
