NYSC begins free medical outreach in Abia community

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has initiated its second-quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers with a free medical outreach in the Umuda-Isingwu Community Hall, Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia State. This program aims to bridge critical healthcare gaps and provide much-needed relief to underserved communities.

The NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers remains one of the flagship community development programmes of the National Youth Service Corps.

NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Alhaji Yunusa Tanimu, declared the program open, highlighting it as a flagship community development initiative. The scheme mobilizes corps medical personnel, including doctors, pharmacists, dentists, and nurses, who are supported by drugs and equipment donated by public-spirited individuals and organizations. Services offered include general consultation, health screening, dental care, eye examinations, immunisation, and health education.

He emphasized that these services are provided free of charge, aligning with the NYSC's goal to reduce healthcare costs and promote healthier communities. Tanimu commended the corps members for volunteering their expertise and urged community members to utilize the opportunity.

The initiative received support from the Executive Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area, Smart Iheoma, and significant sponsorship from the Chima Anyaso Foundation. The NYSC seeks continued stakeholder support through donations and partnerships to extend its reach to more rural communities in Abia State.
