NYSC DG hails Abia camp renovation, seeks more govt support

Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has lauded the renovation efforts at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Abia State, noting a significant improvement since his last visit. During an inspection of the 2026 Batch B Stream 2 Orientation Exercise, Nafiu observed that Phase 1 of the renovation is complete, with Phase 2 pending.

The last time I came here, the facilities were in a terrible state. But today, at least Phase 1 of the renovation exercise has been concluded.

Nafiu emphasized the valuable contributions of corps members to Abia State's socio-economic development, particularly in the health, education, and engineering sectors. He highlighted that the state currently hosts over 53 doctors and 112 nurses, alongside teachers and engineers, who are integrating into the local society and fostering national unity.

He urged corps members to act as good ambassadors by respecting Abia's culture and values. Simultaneously, he appealed to the state's residents to embrace the corps members warmly, treating them as their own children. Nafiu also expressed his intention to discuss additional support requirements with the Governor of Abia State during an upcoming meeting, acknowledging the governor's responsiveness.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Yunusa Tanimu, reported that 1,753 corps members, including 760 males and 993 females, are registered for the current orientation exercise.

My charge to them is that they should be good guests. Respect the culture, the values of the people of Abia State. And my request to the people of Abia State is to see these people as their own children, their brothers and sisters. Welcome them, receive them with open arms.
