NYSC remains key platform for unity, national integration — Mutfwang

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has underscored the enduring significance of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a crucial platform for fostering national unity and integration within Nigeria. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch 'A' Stream II corps members, Mutfwang, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Kenneth Buenyen, emphasized that corps members are more than just participants in a one-year service program. He characterized them as potent ambassadors of unity, symbols of national integration, and catalysts for social and economic progress across the country. The governor implored the newly inducted corps members to engage diligently with all orientation course content and strictly adhere to the scheme's by-laws. He urged them to internalize values such as discipline, patriotism, self-reliance, and leadership, which will serve them well both during and after their service. Mutfwang also called upon the corps members to act as positive and dependable agents of transformation, actively rejecting misinformation and divisive narratives that could jeopardize national cohesion. Reassuring them of his administration's commitment, he stated that efforts are underway, in collaboration with security agencies, to sustain the peace and stability recently restored in Plateau State, prioritizing their safety and well-being. The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Jonathan Yavala, also encouraged full participation in camp activities, particularly the skills acquisition program, to prepare them for future endeavors. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that 1,773 corps members were registered for this batch.
