OAU honours LAUTECH VC for art, scholarship contributions

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Razaq Kalilu, has been honored by Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) with an Award of Excellence. The recognition celebrates his significant contributions to art, scholarship, and leadership.

The award was presented during the Distinguished (Special) Alumni Lecture and Reunion, organized by OAU's Faculty of Environmental Design and Management as part of its 65th-anniversary celebrations. Kalilu was honored alongside other distinguished alumni, including Bode Adediji and Dotun Popoola.

The faculty's citation highlighted Kalilu's "extensive and phenomenal" career development, noting his 27 years of professorial experience. He was described as a polymathic and outstanding scholar, particularly for his pioneering achievements in art and art education. The faculty pointed to his work in introducing Nigeria's first Bachelor of Technology degree in Fine and Applied Arts and developing postgraduate curricula in the field. Kalilu also notably trained Nigeria's first hearing-impaired Art Historian and produced the country's first Master of Technology degrees in Fine Art and Applied Art, including specializations in Electronic and Digital Art and Form and Material Technology.
