Obed Vargas aims to leave Atlético Madrid but may stay in Spain

Mexican midfielder Obed Vargas is reportedly looking to depart Atlético Madrid in search of more playing time, according to Spanish press reports. Since joining the club, Vargas has struggled to secure a regular spot in manager Diego Simeone's lineup.

Despite Vargas's consistent presence during preseason and accumulating minutes, the arrival of new signings and the sheer depth of talent in Atlético's midfield have pushed the 21-year-old toward seeking a new destination. He faces stiff competition from established players like captain Koke, as well as Morten Hjumland, Pablo Barrios, Johnny Cardoso, and Rodrigo Mendoza.

Several Spanish top-flight clubs have expressed interest in acquiring Vargas. Real Betis, Getafe, and Valencia are reportedly leading the race to sign the young Mexican international, who was part of Mexico's 2026 World Cup squad.

Atlético Madrid is reportedly open to loaning Vargas to one of these clubs. Such a move would allow the midfielder to continue developing his skills and gain valuable experience in La Liga, potentially positioning him for a future return to the Madrid club.
