In a move to streamline administration, the government has decided to consolidate the entire Purbachal New Town project under the Dhaka district. This decision was made during the 121st meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR), chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The committee approved five of the six proposals presented, including the administrative realignment of Purbachal, which is currently spread across Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur districts. This division had created administrative complications. The Ministry of Housing and Public Works had proposed bringing the entire project area under Dhaka's jurisdiction to simplify management.

NICAR also gave the green light for the creation of three new upazilas: Fatikchhari Uttar in Chattogram, carved out of Fatikchhari upazila; Bangra in Cumilla, formed from 10 unions of Muradnagar upazila; and a new upazila comprising eight unions under Pagla Police Station in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh. Additionally, a new police station was approved for Chattogram by splitting the existing Hathazari Police Station to establish Halda Police Station.

A proposal to establish a separate Roads and Highways Department zone in Bogura, which would have combined divisions from Bogura, Gaibandha, Joypurhat, Naogaon, and Sirajganj, was withdrawn. Sources from the Road Transport Ministry indicated that this matter falls outside NICAR's purview and will be handled internally by the ministry.

The committee approved five of the six proposals placed before it, including the administrative realignment of Purbachal and the creation of three new upazilas.
