A mob allegedly beat a young man to death in Munshiganj's Sreenagar upazila, accusing him of stealing mobile phones from worshippers during Fajr prayers. The incident occurred yesterday morning at the Osman Gani Bari Mosque.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, 27, from Mottogram village. According to local sources, worshippers reported their phones missing, leading locals to apprehend Shahadat on suspicion. He was then allegedly beaten by the mob and died at the scene from his injuries.

Police recovered Shahadat's body from the roadside in front of the mosque and sent it for an autopsy to Munshiganj General Hospital. Anisur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police for the Sreenagar Circle, confirmed that an investigation is underway. He stated that legal action will be pursued against those responsible once they are identified. Police also noted that multiple theft cases had previously been filed against the deceased.
