Bangladesh's National Citizen Party (NCP) has sharply criticized the ruling BNP government, asserting a complete failure in its initial 180 days in office. Nahid Islam, the party's convener and opposition chief whip, cited critical issues including uncontrolled commodity prices, severe energy and electricity shortages, and a decline in public safety.

Islam accused the government of abandoning its reform agenda and reverting to "old politics," breaking key pledges made during its campaign. The NCP presented a booklet titled “From the Promise of Change to a Return to Old Politics” during an emergency press conference, detailing their assessment of the government's performance.

The party highlighted that controlling prices, improving law and order, and ensuring energy supplies were stated priorities from the government's first cabinet meeting. However, Islam claimed significant failures in all three areas. He pointed to active market syndicates driving up prices, poor planning leading to fuel and gas shortages impacting industries, and a reported 43 percent gas supply shortfall.

Further concerns were raised regarding increased electricity prices shortly after taking office, despite promises to maintain them for two years. The NCP also alleged issues in the agricultural sector, with farmers facing extra costs for fertilizer due to weak monitoring and syndicates. Political violence and attacks on opposition activists have reportedly increased, while accountability institutions have been weakened, according to the NCP.
