A brutal attack in Patiya upazila of Chattogram last night left one man dead and another critically injured. The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Shil, 35, from the Joulur Dighi area, while the injured, Tilak Chakraborty, 35, is receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

According to locals and Patiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaul Haque, Pankaj and Tilak were walking home from a local market around 9:00 pm when they encountered three suspicious individuals near Joulur Dighi. One of the assailants was reportedly wearing a burqa. When the victims shone their torchlights towards the group, the assailants attacked them with sharp weapons.

Locals intervened, rescuing the injured men and transporting them to Patiya Upazila Health Complex. They were later transferred to CMCH, where Pankaj succumbed to his injuries around 11:30 pm. Law enforcement visited the scene and have detained one individual for questioning, though their identity has not been released.

Police are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend all those involved in the attack. Officer-in-Charge Haque stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the fatal assault.
