Measles continues to claim lives in Bangladesh, with eight children succumbing to symptoms consistent with the disease in the 24 hours leading up to yesterday morning. This brings the total number of suspected and confirmed measles-related deaths to 779 nationwide. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has officially classified all these fatalities as suspected measles deaths. The number of suspected measles deaths has now climbed to 684, while 95 deaths have been laboratory-confirmed. In the same 24-hour period, 974 new suspected measles cases were reported, pushing the cumulative total of suspected cases across the country to 1,15,138. Additionally, 197 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total laboratory-confirmed infections to 14,104. Since March 15, a substantial 97,819 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals nationwide. Of these, a significant majority, 94,275 patients, have reportedly recovered, according to DGHS data.
