A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying 174 Bangladeshi nationals finally departed Rome's Fiumicino International Airport for Dhaka after a technical glitch grounded the aircraft.

The flight, BG306, which also carried passengers with Canadian, US, and other foreign passports, landed in Rome on Friday morning for a scheduled refueling stop. It was during this stop that a technical fault was detected, leading to the aircraft being declared Aircraft on Ground (AOG).

While passengers holding Canadian, US, or other foreign passports, or relevant visas, were permitted to clear Italian immigration and were provided with hotel accommodation, the 174 Bangladeshi passport holders faced a different situation. According to passengers, they were unable to enter Italy and had to remain within the airport premises.

Bushra Islam, Biman's general manager of public relations, explained that the airline had faced difficulties arranging hotel accommodation for the stranded passengers due to their inability to clear immigration. However, a Biman engineering team arrived in Rome with necessary spare parts and successfully resolved the technical fault, allowing the aircraft to be declared serviceable and resume its journey.
