Police in Cumilla, Bangladesh, arrested a man on suspicion of raping an intellectually disabled woman, following the circulation of a video depicting the alleged assault on social media. The suspect, identified as Khokon from Uttar Durgapur village, was detained by authorities.

Additional Superintendent of Police Mostain Billah Ferdous confirmed the arrest. Local sources identified Khokon as a BNP activist. However, Shafiqul Islam, president of Ward No. 3 BNP in Barapara Union, stated that Khokon holds no official party position and is merely a party worker. Islam condemned the incident and pledged full cooperation with legal proceedings.

The alleged incident reportedly took place on Thursday night near a library at Molla Market in Bijoypur Bazar. According to local accounts, the woman was sleeping in front of the library when the assault occurred. The circulated video appears to show a man approaching and touching the woman, who attempts to resist before the assault.

The video also shows the man speaking with a night watchman before leaving the scene. The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified. Cumilla Sadar South Model Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Rakibul Islam confirmed that the incident is currently under investigation.
