A 14-member Malaysian delegation has arrived in Dhaka to manage the crucial training and deployment of around 15,000 Bangladeshi workers. These individuals were unable to travel to Malaysia before the May 31, 2024, entry deadline, a situation that left many stranded after incurring recruitment costs.

Officials from the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment confirmed the delegation's arrival early today. They were met at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Mohammad Rashedul Haque, the Managing Director of Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL), along with other BOESL officials and airport welfare desk representatives.

Malaysia had agreed to accept approximately 18,000 Bangladeshi workers who had completed their recruitment procedures. However, delays in the recruitment and deployment process prevented over 18,000 workers from entering the country by the stipulated deadline, even though they had secured valid visas. BOESL has so far facilitated the departure of about 3,000 workers.

The visiting Malaysian delegation's primary objective is to oversee the arrangements for the remaining 15,000 workers. This includes ensuring their proper training and completing all necessary preparations for their deployment. The visit also presents an opportunity for discussions aimed at refining recruitment procedures and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the manpower sector between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
