Bangladesh's Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad commenced his official duties by paying homage to the nation's martyrs. Ahmad visited the National Memorial in Savar, where he laid a wreath and observed a moment of silence to honor those who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War. A contingent of the armed forces provided him with a guard of honor during the solemn ceremony.

Following his tribute at the memorial, Ahmad was scheduled to visit Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka. There, he planned to lay wreaths at the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, located at the Zia Mausoleum in Zia Udyan. These acts signify a continuation of traditional political respect paid to past leaders.

Mr. Ahmad assumed the responsibilities of acting president on Friday. His ascension to the role is in accordance with the Constitution, as he holds the position of speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad. He stepped into the role following the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, who cited ill health as the reason for stepping down. Shahabuddin submitted his resignation letter to the speaker, fulfilling the constitutional requirements for such a transition.
