Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been reconstituted, with Justice AKM Asaduzzaman appointed as its new chairman. The appointments of Dr Jahangir Alam Khan and Dr Md Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan as commissioners were announced today in a notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani.

The appointments were made under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act of 2004. According to the notification, the ACC chairman will receive a salary, allowances, status, and other benefits equivalent to those of an Appellate Division judge of the Supreme Court. The two commissioners will hold facilities and status comparable to those of a High Court Division judge.

The anti-graft watchdog had been operating without a commission since March 3 of this year. This followed the stepping down of the then ACC chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen and commissioners Mia Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brigadier General (retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid.
