A new commuter train service, named the 'Abhijatri Commuter,' has been launched, connecting Dhaka and Gopalganj via the Padma Bridge. Road Transport and Bridges Shipping and Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam inaugurated the service at Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka.

The railways ministry stated that the service was introduced within 180 days of the government taking office, despite challenges with passenger coaches and locomotives. The train is intended to offer an affordable and dependable daily transport option for office-goers, students, businesspeople, and other passengers traveling between Gopalganj, nearby regions, and the capital.

Beyond passenger transport, the 'Abhijatri Commuter' is expected to facilitate the cost-effective transport of local produce, including vegetables, fish, and agricultural goods, to markets in Dhaka. This initiative aligns with the government's broader goals of expanding safe, affordable, modern, and environmentally friendly rail transport and developing an effective commuter network.

Train 135 will depart Dhaka at 3:30 p.m. and arrive in Gopalganj at 6:45 p.m. Conversely, Train 136 will leave Gopalganj at 7:15 p.m. and reach Dhaka at 10:25 p.m. The 148-kilometer route includes seven stops: Keraniganj, Sreenagar, Mawa, Bhanga Junction, Nagarkanda, Maheshpur, and Kashiani Junction. The train consists of eight coaches with a total of 630 seats and will operate six days a week, with Saturdays as its suspension day.
