At least nine people were injured in a series of clashes between activists of the banned Awami League (AL) and the opposition BNP in Noakhali Sadar upazila, Bangladesh, last night. The violence, which took place between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM in West Shullakia village, saw an AL office room and a motorcycle set on fire, with several other motorcycles vandalized.

According to Mohammad Touhidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Sudharam Model Police Station, police were dispatched immediately after receiving reports. Upon visiting the scene, law enforcement confirmed the arson and vandalism. The situation is currently calm, and police operations are underway to apprehend those responsible. Legal action will proceed once a written complaint is filed.

The clashes reportedly stemmed from a protest procession by the student wing of the AL, Chhatra League, on Friday afternoon. In response, local BNP, its associate bodies, and Jamaat-e-Islami held separate rallies. Tensions escalated when activists from Chhatra Dal (BNP's student wing) and AL confronted each other in front of the residence of an AL supporter, triggering the violence. During the melee, supporters of the AL chairman allegedly attacked BNP and Chhatra Dal activists, vandalizing motorcycles and setting one ablaze, prompting retaliation with the burning of a local AL office.
