Denmark's cooperation will be crucial in addressing Dhaka's escalating demand for clean water and its worsening water crisis, Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan stated on Tuesday. He highlighted Denmark's potential as a key partner for Bangladesh in water supply, waste management, and development assistance.

The minister's remarks came during a meeting with Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller at the Secretariat. They discussed enhancing bilateral relations, expanding cooperation in water supply and waste management, and exploring Danish investment in development projects. The Danish envoy congratulated the minister on his new role and expressed optimism for future bilateral ties and expanded cooperation.

Denmark's support for the Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant Project (Phase-3) was a significant focus. The Danish government committed Tk 4,500 crore to the project, comprising Tk 1,500 crore as a grant and Tk 3,000 crore as a soft loan. State Minister for LGRD Mir Shahe Alam noted this support as a major success, anticipating that the project's completion will substantially meet Dhaka's growing need for clean water. Officials from the Local Government Division, Dhaka WASA, and the ministry also attended the meeting.
