October in July: Dubovy Park in Bishkek is dying amid reconstruction

A Bishkek resident has expressed dismay over the state of Dubovy Park, describing its ongoing reconstruction as a disaster where the park is "dying." The reader complained that half the park has been "messed up," while the other half is drying out, creating an environment they likened to "October in July."

"How can they drag out the work when the hot period is upon us?" the concerned citizen wrote, questioning where children and the elderly are supposed to go for recreation. The resident criticized officials for prioritizing bureaucracy over public welfare, stating, "As always, officials put bureaucracy first, not care for people."

The municipal enterprise "Bishkekzelkhoz" has announced plans to improve Dubovy Park at a cost of nearly 40 million som (approximately $450,000). A tender for the project was only announced at the end of June. The selected contractor is tasked with a comprehensive renovation of the territory, including the installation of a new irrigation system.

All work is required to be completed within 30 calendar days after the contract is signed. However, the mayor's office has not provided information on whether the contract has been finalized. Currently, no construction activities are taking place in Dubovy Park, which is reportedly deteriorating.
