Odense Håndbold opens season with convincing win over medal rivals

Odense Håndbold, a favorite in the women's league, made a strong start to the new season with a 32-28 away win against Ikast Håndbold. The match, which also saw the return of Sarah Iversen after a significant injury and childbirth, began at a high tempo with questionable defense.

However, Odense gradually took control of the game, particularly in the second half of the first period. Ingvild Bakkerud delivered an outstanding performance, scoring crucial goals, including one assisted by Anna Vyakhireva, to give Odense a 15-11 lead at halftime. Ikast managed to reduce the deficit to 15-12 before the break, but it was clear they needed an extraordinary effort to come back.

In the second half, Ikast's goalkeeper Amalie Milling made several spectacular saves, and the team briefly built momentum. Despite Odense struggling to maintain their rhythm, Ikast could not get closer than three goals. The match was ultimately sealed by a repeat of the first-half combination between Vyakhireva and Bakkerud, securing the win for Odense.

This victory sets Odense up as a strong contender for the championship, with their prospects depending on keeping their star players injury-free. Meanwhile, defending champions Team Esbjerg also opened their season with a win, defeating Ringkøbing Håndbold 33-28.
