Official: Melilla hinders Beni Ansar's development

A senior official from the Moroccan town of Beni Ansar has accused the Spanish enclave of Melilla of obstructing the region's development. Abdel Hamid Aguid, the deputy head of the Beni Ansar local council, stated that the town continues to suffer the consequences of Melilla's persistent Spanish presence.

Aguid described a situation marked by accumulated imbalances and constraints that have, over decades, prevented the region from fully utilizing its potential. He believes these factors have stalled Beni Ansar's transformation into a genuine center for development and stability, a goal that remains elusive.

In comments to Hespress, Aguid explained that Beni Ansar faces significant hurdles directly linked to the proximity and policies of Melilla. These challenges, he argues, have created a stagnant environment, hindering economic growth and investment in the Moroccan border town.
