OGDCL commences oil production from well in Sindh's Sanghar district

The Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan's primary exploration and production firm, announced it has successfully commenced oil production from its Bobi Deep-1 well. Located in the Bobi and Dhamraki mining lease area within Sindh's Sanghar district, the well is currently yielding 2,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) from the Massive Sand of the Lower Goru Formation.

OGDCL had previously announced the discovery of oil and gas at this exploratory well on June 3. Demonstrating its operational efficiency, the company rapidly completed a 1.5-kilometer flowline connecting the well site to the Bobi Plant. This swift action enables early monetization of the discovery and ensures a timely start to production.

As the sole operator with a 100% working interest in the mining lease, OGDCL executed this project entirely using its own indigenous capabilities. The commencement of production is anticipated to significantly strengthen Pakistan's domestic energy supplies. It is also expected to reduce the nation's dependence on imported oil by accelerating exploration and production activities across OGDCL's portfolio, aligning with national energy security objectives.

This development follows other recent successes for OGDCL, including the start of commercial production from the Baragzai X-01 well in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in April, which is Pakistan's highest-producing well. The company also announced the successful commencement of oil production from its Pasakhi-13 development well in March, marking Pakistan's first horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir.
