Ogun gov, Mr Latin, others bid Ogogo farewell

Hundreds gathered at the Agunloye Ashade Pavilion in Ilaro on Monday to bid a final farewell to the late veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo. Among the mourners were Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Mr. Bolaji Amusan (Mr. Latin), and numerous other Nollywood actors, including Yinka Quadri.

We are here this morning to join the family, friends, and indeed the whole of Nigeria to mourn the demise of Mr Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, a true icon, a proud Yoruba man, somebody that you are always proud to associate with and say this indeed is my brother.

Governor Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Wasiu Isiaka, described the deceased as an "exceptional theatre practitioner and icon" whose demise was deeply felt. "We are here this morning to join the family, friends, and indeed the whole of Nigeria to mourn the demise of Mr Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, a true icon, a proud Yoruba man, somebody that you are always proud to associate with and say this indeed is my brother," the governor remarked during the Muslim prayers. He encouraged attendees to find solace in the fact that Ogogo lived a good and impactful life.

Ogogo was a complete gentleman, a man of reputable character. He’s a man of the people; this was evident when he was sick; people unknown to me were all eager to help, but he is gone now.

Mr. Amusan, TAMPAN National President, spoke of Ogogo as a "complete gentleman of reputable character" whose passing brought sorrow to the entertainment industry. He noted the widespread eagerness of people, even those unknown to him, to help Ogogo during his illness, highlighting his popularity. Amusan urged Ogogo's family to keep his legacy alive, stating, "Ogogo is dead, but his legacy should be kept alive."

During the janazah prayer, Sheikh Iskeel Lawal, the Consultant on Islamic Affairs to the Ogun State Government, reminded attendees of the inevitability of death and encouraged them to live righteously. He also advised theatre practitioners to communicate their challenges openly and remain united, acknowledging that life's storms can arise unexpectedly. The governor expressed appreciation for the support shown to the family by the entertainment industry and the wider community during this trying period.
