Ogun State Monarch Endorses PDP Governorship Candidate Adebutu

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has publicly endorsed Oladipupo Adebutu, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Nigeria. During Adebutu's visit to the Ake Palace in Abeokuta to seek support for the upcoming 2027 election, Oba Gbadebo described the candidate as a "trustworthy and reliable politician."

I have belonged to a particular club with Baba Adebutu for the past 30 years. ... Eventually, we found a building opposite the City Hall in Lagos and negotiated to purchase it. As members began contributing towards the cost, Baba Adebutu stood up and told us to keep the money we had contributed. He single-handedly paid for the building. Oba Gbadebo, who is also a close associate of Adebutu's father, Sir Kensington Adebutu, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, shared an anecdote illustrating the family's character. He recounted how Sir Kensington single-handedly funded the purchase of a secretariat building for a club they both belonged to, highlighting his generosity. "The son of a lion must resemble the lion. In fact, he is an even better version of his father," the monarch stated, drawing a strong parallel between father and son and expressing confidence in Adebutu's integrity.

Adebutu, accompanied by his running mate Lateefat Sowunmi-Kolapo and other PDP leaders including Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, sought the blessings of the Egba Traditional Council. He pledged to grant full financial autonomy to local governments if elected governor, a move he believes will set the nation in the right direction. Adebutu criticized governors across party lines for allegedly diverting local government allocations, asserting his own clean record during his previous tenures at the National Assembly.
