Ogun State pledges 95% of votes for President Tinubu in 2027, zones deputy governor post

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has committed to delivering 95% of the state's votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Abiodun made this pledge during a strategic meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta, emphasizing that Tinubu deserves a second term due to his administration's "far-reaching economic reforms."

The governor asserted that President Tinubu's initiated reforms have successfully repositioned Nigeria's economy, laying a foundation for sustainable growth. He also commended APC members in Ogun State for conducting peaceful and transparent primary elections, highlighting the state's exemplary political maturity and unity during the process. Abiodun noted that the orderly primaries, which saw candidates emerge without rancor, set a precedent in the state's history.

Our primary election was inclusive, transparent, and fair. This was made possible by the commitment and mutual trust among our leaders. Such a process has never happened in the history of our state.

Addressing the upcoming 2027 elections, Governor Abiodun announced that the position of deputy governor has been unanimously zoned to the Ogun East Senatorial District, specifically the Ijebu axis. This decision considers that the governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, hails from the Ogun West Senatorial District. Abiodun further specified that the Ijebu-Ode Federal Constituency is the likely area from which the deputy governor candidate will emerge.

Governor Abiodun congratulated Ogun West Senatorial District for producing the party's governorship candidate, breaking a more than 50-year jinx since the state's creation. He described this development as a significant milestone, reflecting the APC's commitment to inclusivity and equitable representation within the state.

We recognise the need to commence political activities in earnest, and only one key position remains to be filled, the office of the Deputy Governor. We therefore consulted widely with party leaders and agreed that the position should go to Ogun East.
