Ogun SUBEB hails governor for N12bn education funding payment

The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for his administration's commitment to basic education funding. The board highlighted that the governor's tenure has facilitated the payment of counterpart funding obligations spanning 13 years within just seven years.

This represents a cumulative period of 13 years of counterpart funding obligations, facilitated within just seven years of the administration of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

The latest payment exceeds N12 billion and covers the 2022-2026 period, representing five years of intervention funding. This achievement follows the settlement of obligations for 2014-2017, 2018-2019, and 2020-2021 under Abiodun's leadership.

Evangelist Joshua Olalekan Ifede, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, described this as an "outstanding and unprecedented achievement." He emphasized that the consistent release of these funds unlocks critical interventions to enhance school infrastructure, create better learning environments, and improve teaching and learning across the state.

The significance of this achievement cannot be overemphasised. By consistently providing the required counterpart funds, His Excellency has unlocked and supported critical interventions aimed at improving educational infrastructure, providing conducive learning environments, enhancing teaching and learning and creating better opportunities for learners across the state.

SUBEB further noted that this funding commitment reflects the governor's long-term vision for education as a crucial investment in the state's future. The board believes clearing such a significant backlog demonstrates Abiodun's "sense of responsibility, foresight and determination" to bolster basic education for the benefit of teachers, learners, parents, and administrators.
