Okpebholo condemns Edo kidnapping, orders police probe

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has strongly condemned a kidnapping that occurred on Sunday at the Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City, labeling it an unacceptable attack on innocent residents.

In a statement released by his media aide, Patrick Ebojele, on Monday, Governor Okpebholo issued a directive to the Edo State Commissioner of Police. He ordered an immediate, swift, and coordinated investigation into the incident. The primary goals are the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for the attack.

The governor underscored the state government's firm stance against any actions that jeopardize public safety and security or disrupt the state's peace. "As a government, we will not tolerate any act that threatens public safety and security or disturbs the peace of the state," Okpebholo stated, reiterating his call for a thorough police investigation.

I strongly condemn this act of kidnapping and I call on the Commissioner of Police to immediately open investigation into the matter.

Governor Okpebholo also urged residents throughout Edo State, particularly in Benin City, to maintain a high level of alertness. He encouraged them to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station, emphasizing that timely information is crucial for supporting ongoing police operations.

He reaffirmed the government's commitment to pursuing justice, stating that the administration will not cease its efforts until the perpetrators are apprehended and face the full extent of the law. The incident reportedly involved a woman being abducted from a store within the market, an event captured on video.
