Okpebholo Swears In Edo Local Government Chairmen, Calls for Grassroots Development

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo told the newly sworn-in chairmen of the state’s 18 local government areas that their public offices must produce visible results in local communities.

Speaking at their swearing-in ceremony at the Festival Hall of Government House in Benin on Friday, Okpebholo described their emergence as the start of a new chapter for grassroots governance. He said the recent local government elections were free, fair and credible, and that turnout showed growing public confidence in democracy and his administration.

The governor said local governments, as the level of government closest to residents, carried a direct responsibility for ensuring that development reached communities across Edo. He linked that responsibility to renewed support for local government autonomy under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

He urged the chairmen to complement state government projects and make government’s impact felt in every community.

Okpebholo also asked them to strengthen political structures at the grassroots and mobilize support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He set a collective target of 2.5 million votes for the president, saying the task would require hard work, unity and sustained engagement. “The best way to earn their continued support is through good governance and visible development. Gabriel Iduseri, chairman of Oredo Local Government Area, thanked the governor on behalf of the new chairmen and said they were honored to serve their communities.
