Okpebholo urges new Edo boards, agency to serve with integrity

Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo inaugurated four government bodies and told their members that public service carried responsibilities to both residents and God.

The bodies are the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, the Consumer Protection Committee and the Edo State Rural Access Roads Agency. Speaking at the Government House in Benin City, Okpebholo said their appointments required diligent service to the people of the state.

“I wish to remind you that this is not merely a responsibility to the people; it is also a responsibility before God,” the governor said. He urged the appointees to work with integrity, dedication and humility, and to place public interests above personal considerations. He also called for unity and decisions that would produce tangible results.

The boards and committee pledged to carry out their mandates. Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board Chairman Very Rev. Fr. Alfred Aronegbe Agbonlahor thanked the governor and promised to promote the interests and welfare of Christian pilgrims. Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board Chairman Mallam Musa Muhammad Uduimoh said his board would pursue efficient, transparent and satisfactory services for intending pilgrims.

Consumer Protection Committee Chairman Iyamu Osaro said members would protect consumers and promote fairness and accountability in commercial activities. Momodu Oghenakhoghie Goodluck was inaugurated as director-general of the Rural Access Roads Agency. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa and Secretary to the State Government Umar Musa Ikhilor, among others.
