Old almond tree branch falls on moving motorcycle, injuring rider in Vietnam

A motorcyclist in Phan Rang city, Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam, required emergency medical attention after a massive branch from an old almond tree unexpectedly fell onto the road, striking their vehicle. The incident occurred around 10:40 AM on June 6, 2026, near the Ninh Thuan Hotel on August 21st Street.

The falling branch, approximately 60 centimeters in diameter, crushed the motorcycle, causing severe damage. The rider was injured in the impact and was quickly transported to a medical facility by bystanders and local authorities. The force of the fall was significant enough to break the motorcycle in half.

Local authorities from the UBND of Phan Rang ward responded to the scene. They assisted the injured victim, managed traffic flow, and worked to remove the fallen branch to ensure the safety of other road users. The large branch had previously provided shade for the street.

Residents reported that the almond tree was very old and had a wide canopy. The exact cause of the branch's collapse is currently under investigation by relevant authorities. The incident underscores the potential hazards posed by aging trees in urban environments.
