Old Weirs, Bridge Remains, Dishes: See What Drought Revealed at Lipno and Orlík

The prolonged drought gripping the region has dramatically lowered water levels in South Bohemia's largest reservoirs, Orlík and Lipno. This significant drop has unveiled a historical landscape previously submerged beneath the water's surface.

Beneath the Podolský bridge, the remnants of an old chain bridge spanning the Vltava River are now clearly visible. This stark reminder of past infrastructure emerges as a direct consequence of the diminishing water supply. Similarly, at Lipno, the low water levels have prompted concerns about the operational continuity of local services.

Authorities at Lipno have indicated that ferry services in Horní Planá may be suspended if the water levels continue to recede. The Husinec reservoir near Prachatice is also experiencing critically low levels due to the ongoing dry spell. These exposed remnants and potential service disruptions underscore the tangible impact of the drought on both the environment and local communities.
