Oman concludes first-ever participation in Moscow International Book Fair

Oman has concluded its first-ever participation with an official pavilion at the Moscow International Book Fair, a gathering that brought together more than 300 publishers and featured over 400 cultural and professional events.

Held at the Gostiny Dvor exhibition centre from Sept. 2 to 6, the fair drew researchers, students, tourists and cultural enthusiasts to Oman’s pavilion. Visitors explored publications covering the sultanate’s culture, history, identity and civilisational heritage.

The pavilion brought together material from the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and Sultan Qaboos University. Its displays reflected Oman’s cultural, scientific and heritage landscape.

The presentation also focused on themes that connected Oman with Russian academic and cultural interests. Visitors included students and researchers of Arabic and Oriental studies, people interested in Oman’s maritime history and its presence in Zanzibar and Africa, and those drawn to its ancient trade ties with Asia. Some had previously visited Oman and wanted to learn more about its culture, history and academic life.

Oman said the participation was intended to strengthen its cultural presence abroad, use international book fairs to showcase its intellectual and cultural output, and create new opportunities for collaboration with cultural and academic institutions, publishers and researchers. China served as the fair’s guest of honour, while the programme examined books, publishing, literature, translation, reading and changes in the content industry amid technological transformation.
