Oman honors blood donors, highlights advancements in life-saving services

Oman's Ministry of Health marked World Blood Donor Day with a ceremony honoring individuals who contribute to saving lives through blood donation. The event, held under the theme “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives,” underscored the humanitarian value of giving blood and societal solidarity.

Dr. Said Harib Al Lamki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, attended the ceremony, which also featured a speech by Mohsen Saif Al Sharyani, Head of the Donor Affairs Section at the Blood Services Department. Al Sharyani emphasized the growing importance of blood donation in preserving life and human dignity. He highlighted significant developments in Oman's blood bank services, including the expansion of service coverage and the opening of new facilities like the Seeb Blood Donation Center. An expansion project for the Blood Services Department building in Bowsher is also nearing completion.

National campaigns and new strategies have led to record-breaking achievements in blood and platelet collection, effectively meeting the demands of healthcare institutions. Technically, blood bank services have undergone modernization, focusing on service quality and blood safety. Laboratory departments have been transformed with standardized test results and interconnected blood banks across all governorates, operating under unified standards. Advanced specialized services, such as malaria and viral hepatitis testing, have been introduced at the Central Blood Bank in Bowsher, broadening the donor base. Furthermore, modern technologies, including automated centrifuge devices using the ‘Reveos’ system, are enhancing the efficient and precise production of blood components.
