Oman Sail's Optimist Team Ready for 2026 World Championship in Morocco

Oman Sail's Optimist team is poised to make its mark at the 2026 Optimist World Championship in Tanger, Morocco, beginning June 18.

A squad of five talented young sailors will represent Oman at the prestigious 10-day event, hosted by The Royal Yacht Club de Tanger. This international competition brings together 292 of the world's top young sailors from more than 72 nations. The Omani team includes notable young talents such as Mohammed Sulaiman Al Balushi and Khalid Yahya Al Sarihi, who have previously medaled in Arab Sailing Championships.

The Optimist World Championship is the highlight of the Optimist calendar. Sailors from around the world have been training all year for this opportunity – as have we, and we are going to Morocco with great preparation and high hopes for an excellent performance.

Nawaf Al Ghadani, Deputy Head of Sailing Schools and Team Leader, expressed high hopes for the team's performance, stating, "The Optimist World Championship is the highlight of the Optimist calendar. Sailors from around the world have been training all year for this opportunity – as have we, and we are going to Morocco with great preparation and high hopes for an excellent performance." Assistant Head Coach Youth, Sultan Al Zadjali, added, "Our sailors have been performing at a high level all season and with each event the team gets stronger. The Optimist World Championships are a great chance to represent the nation on the global stage, gain experience at a world-level competition and, hopefully, bring medals home to Oman."

The championship is a key event in a packed schedule for the Omani sailors. Following the world championship, they will participate in a Summer Sailing Camp, the Optimist European Championships in Poland, and the Oman Sailing Championship. Oman Sail's broader mission involves developing youth through sailing, fostering lifelong learning and leadership skills, and promoting Oman globally as part of the Oman Vision 2040 initiative.
