Omani honey and turmeric exhibition opens in Salalah

An exhibition supporting Omani honey and turmeric producers has opened in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate. The event, which runs until August 31, 2026, aims to boost the marketing of local products and enhance food security by showcasing premium Omani honey and Dhofar-grown turmeric.

The Ministry’s programme to develop the beekeeping sector began in the early 1980s. In this drive, the Ministry lays emphasis on helping beekeepers gain basic skills, apply the best practices in managing beehives, combat pests and expand bee colonies.

The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhofar Governorate organized the exhibition. Officials highlighted the Ministry's long-standing commitment to the beekeeping sector, which began in the early 1980s. This program focuses on equipping beekeepers with essential skills, promoting best practices in hive management, pest control, and colony expansion.

The Ministry's efforts contributed to achieving high rates of production of natural honey, raising the annual output by so far to 50 tons.

These efforts have significantly increased natural honey production, with annual output reaching 50 tons. This year marks the fourth consecutive year for the honey and turmeric exhibition. Turmeric is also recognized as a key crop for the food processing industry, with cultivation expanding annually in the mountainous regions of Dhofar during the Khareef (monsoon) season.

The honey and turmeric exhibition is now being held for the 4th year in a row.

The exhibition is expected to invigorate local food industries, provide crucial support to rural families, and encourage the growth of their agricultural projects.

Turmeric constitutes one of the main crops that boost food processing industries. Local farmers grow turmeric during the Khareef (monsoon) in the mountainous provinces of Dhofar Governorate, said Al Jahfali, noting the cultivated area is in steady expansion on an annual basis.
