Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde's 'Mother's Love' Earns N22.2 Million for Charity After Grossing N103 Million

Filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has disclosed the financial realities behind her movie "Mother's Love," revealing that the production earned N22.28 million despite the film grossing over N103 million at the box office. Jalade-Ekeinde, who made her directorial debut with the film, shared these figures in an Instagram video detailing its theatrical performance.

At the end of our run, we had made N103,094,663 after deductions for exhibitors, distributors, print and advertising, and value-added tax (VAT). Entertainment tax and withholding tax, all deductions and everything else from cinemas. The money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s Love was N22,276,558.

The film concluded its run with N103,094,663 in gross revenue. However, after significant deductions for exhibitors, distributors, print and advertising, Value Added Tax (VAT), entertainment tax, and withholding tax, the producers' share amounted to N22,276,558. This disclosure offers a rare insight into the substantial gap between a film's headline gross and the actual amount received by its creators.

In a remarkable act of philanthropy, Jalade-Ekeinde announced that the entire N22.27 million that accrued to the producers was donated to Slum2School Africa, a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving educational access for children in underserved communities. This donation fulfills a pledge made by her production company, RedHot Concepts, in March to donate 100% of the proceeds from the film's Nigerian theatrical run.

According to Jalade-Ekeinde, the film's distributor, The Nile Entertainment, transferred the funds to Slum2School Africa on July 7, 2026. She expressed gratitude to moviegoers for making the donation possible and assured that her team at Red Hot Concepts would follow up with Slum2School Africa to ensure the funds are used judiciously for the education of children in underserved communities.
