On the Shores of Herself: An Original and Fascinating Theatrical Proposal

The Teatro Colón's Experimental Center is hosting "A orillas de sí misma," a theatrical experience described as both original and fascinating, which delves into the possibilities of sound in performance. This production, a coproduction between Paraíso Club and the Experimental Center, stands in contrast to the visually dominant theater prevalent today, focusing instead on how sound can generate images, meanings, connections, bodies, and spaces.

Conceived by director Ciro Zorzoli, the work is based on "Arroyo," a 2021 novel by actress Susana Pampín. The play translates the author's narrative voice into a collective, diverse ensemble of eighteen actors who sing and perform the story. Marcela Guerty leads the cast as the primary narrator.

The production is structured into ten scenes, each corresponding to a chapter of the novel. It follows the protagonist, Gaby, through various vacation periods in the Tigre Delta between January 2003 and December 2018. Gaby, who loves another woman, navigates a fluctuating relationship with her mother and sisters. Her experiences are deeply intertwined with the natural yet unpredictable landscape of the Delta, captivating her with its dense waters, diverse birdlife, plants, fruits, and local inhabitants.

"A orillas de sí misma" highlights the small, everyday moments that bring Gaby happiness and a sense of escape: spontaneous swims, afternoon naps, the ritual of drinking mate, kayak trips, and thunderstorms. These simple occurrences, experienced once or twice a year, provide her with profound contentment and allow her to momentarily forget her troubles.
