Ondo police rescue kidnapped woman, arrest four suspects

Ondo State Police have rescued a 26-year-old woman abducted in Owo and arrested four suspects in connection with the incident. The rescue followed a coordinated security operation involving police, the Amotekun corps, local hunters, and vigilantes.

The victim, Miss Ogechi John, was abducted on Monday, June 8, 2026, near the Gozako Filling Station along the Emure–Akure Expressway. The perpetrators reportedly used an ash-coloured, unregistered Toyota Camry before fleeing the scene.

The Command immediately activated a coordinated response alongside Amotekun, local hunters and vigilantes.

Upon receiving a distress report, the Ondo State Police Command immediately launched a joint response. They secured strategic entry and exit points in Owo and surrounding areas while tactical teams searched nearby bushes and escape routes. The suspected getaway vehicle was found abandoned in a bush at Ojana, Owo.

Most importantly, sustained operational pressure and intelligence-driven efforts by the police culminated in the successful rescue of the victim.

During the search, police arrested four suspects: Friday Shola, 27; Friday Monday, 21; Osho Joseph, 24; and Lawal Mariam. They were found in possession of a lady's motorcycle believed to be linked to the case. Preliminary investigations suggest the abandoned vehicle was handed over to a herbalist, Lawal Lucky, who is currently at large.

The victim was successfully rescued due to sustained pressure and intelligence-led operations. The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their swift response and resilience, vowing that criminal elements would find no safe haven in Ondo State. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects.
