One-day tea house to help activists supporting Osong disaster victims

A fundraising event, a one-day tea house named 'A Cup of Solidarity, A Heart Together,' is being organized to support activists of the Osong Disaster Citizen's Committee.

The committee members were fined after protesting the demolition of a temporary mourning site established for victims of the Osong underpass disaster. The activists were charged with trespassing for entering the temporary building of the Cheongju City Hall during their protest against the removal of the memorial.

Initially, the activists received a suspended sentence in the first trial. However, last month, the Cheongju District Court's Criminal Appeals Division 3 overturned the original ruling and sentenced two key figures, the standing representative and joint executive chairman of the committee, to a 5 million won fine each.

The fundraising event is scheduled to take place on July 27th at Cafe 1865 in Cheongju's Seowon-gu, running from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature screenings of videos related to the Osong disaster, performances, and speeches.

The initiative aims to gather funds to help the activists cover their respective fines, demonstrating community support for their actions in advocating for the victims of the disaster.
