One dead in Aeroparque accident; investigation launched

A fatal accident tragically occurred at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery on Wednesday, resulting in the death of one individual. The incident took place while workers were manipulating a gas cylinder in a technical room on the first floor of the airport.

The victims were two outsourced employees from 'Maxiseguridad,' a company contracted by Aeropuertos Argentina 2000. According to airport sources, the accident happened in a technical area, away from passengers, when an electrical panel detached and struck a carbon dioxide (CO2) cylinder. This impact caused the safety valve to rupture, trapping the employees in the compartment.

Medical personnel responded to the scene and confirmed the death of one worker, identified as Garnica, due to intoxication. The second worker sustained minor injuries. The involved sector has been secured, and evidence, including the workers' clothing, has been collected. Testimonial statements are being taken from personnel from Aeropuertos Argentina and 'Maxiseguridad.'

The prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident. Potential factors under consideration include technical failures, procedural errors, or environmental conditions. The investigation aims to clarify whether the incident was a workplace accident stemming from negligence or unforeseen circumstances.
