One Dead in Fire Near Požarevac; Large Wildfire Rages

A fire in the village of Lučica near Požarevac has claimed one life, with authorities stating the victim allegedly started the blaze themselves. Luka Čaušić, head of the Interior Ministry's Emergency Situations Sector, emphasized the tragic outcome of "irresponsible behavior" and urged "maximum caution" from all citizens.

That is the most severe consequence of irresponsible behavior and therefore I once again call on all citizens for maximum caution.

Čaušić highlighted the ongoing high temperatures and increased risk of fires across Serbia. He specifically pointed to a large wildfire in Deliblatska Peščara, which erupted around 2 p.m. and rapidly spread to over 300 hectares due to heat and wind. Over 80 emergency personnel, volunteer firefighters, and "Vojvodinašume" employees are currently engaged in firefighting efforts. Three Interior Ministry helicopters are also deployed, with heavy machinery expected to arrive to create firebreaks and halt the fire's advance.

In extinguishing the fire, more than 80 members of the Emergency Situations Sector, volunteer fire departments, and 'Vojvodinašuma' are currently participating, three helicopters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are also engaged - Kamov Ka32, H215 Super puma and H145, and we expect the arrival of heavy machinery for the construction of firebreaks, in order to stop the further spread of the fire.
