One dead, one injured in Quito traffic accident

A tragic traffic accident in Quito claimed one life and left another person injured on Wednesday night. The collision occurred around 8:54 p.m. at the intersection of Mariscal Sucre Avenue and Jorge Piedra Street in the San Carlos sector, as vehicles traveled northbound.

Emergency services, including the Metropolitan Transit Agency, Firefighters, and National Police, were dispatched to the scene following an alert from ECU 911. Initial reports indicate that two individuals on a motorcycle were struck. Despite the rapid response of medical teams, one of the motorcycle's occupants succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

The second victim received pre-hospital care before being transported to a medical facility for further treatment. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause and identify the responsible vehicle. Traffic in the area was partially restricted during the emergency response and subsequent legal procedures, including the removal of the deceased, before normal circulation was restored.
