One injured as IED under vehicle explodes in Lagos market

A bomb explosion in Lagos, Nigeria, injured one person and caused brief panic in the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin. Police Commissioner Fatai Tijani assured residents that the commercial area remains safe following a comprehensive sweep by security operatives.

We promptly deployed our EOD team after receiving reports of an explosion. The area was cordoned off and thoroughly searched.

The device, suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device, was planted under a vehicle and detonated when the engine was started. The injured individual sustained stable condition and is receiving hospital treatment.

Police deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal operatives to cordon off and secure the area. Preliminary findings confirmed the device was under the passenger side of the vehicle. Remnants of the explosive have been recovered for forensic examination as investigations continue.

Commissioner Tijani urged the public to remain calm and disregard rumors of widespread insecurity, reaffirming the command's commitment to safety. The Baale of Oke Mushin Community, Mr. Tajudeen Faronbi, confirmed the incident occurred early Monday and that he immediately contacted authorities, leading to the deployment of dozens of police officers and operatives.
